Players and fans agree, coming out to a Toros game is unmatched
The San Antonio Toros got their 2026 season underway with a 71-0 rout of the Tennessee Hornets in preseason action at Harlandale Memorial Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Cheering on the local team were plenty of red-and-black faithful in the stands, clapping at every touchdown and defensive stop the team made.
And fans felt the excitement on and off the field.
“The fan experience itself, I didn’t know what to expect. I came out today with the advertising TV, but coming out, I’m enjoying every minute. It’s exciting,” said Toros fan Rueben Bravo. “We have a great team here. Our fans in those accounts support them, and it’s been an awesome experience.”
The Matadoras (the team’s cheerleading squad) got the fans hyped during the game, and the fan mascot, the Bandido, did his part to keep them entertained during the lopsided Toros’ win.
And it is this fan experience that Bravo feels all San Antonio needs to experience firsthand.
“Even though it’s in its infancy, it’s going to go a long way here in San Antonio and be very successful. But we need the support of the fans.”
The fan energy was felt by the players throughout the game.
“We got more fans than I thought,” said wide receiver Lance Legendre. “They’re out here, they support, and they’re loud, and they’re attentive. So that’s what we need to keep going.”
Said Quarterback Will Ardnt: “It’s good, loving seeing the people out here, and I know once you start the regular season, they’re gonna come out.”
Despite the Toros massive win, the fans stayed until the final whistle to end the first game in the new chapter of Toros history.
And what a return to the field it was: A huge Toros win, a great fan turnout, and the right direction the team needs to start the regular season ahead.
The Toros will kick off their regular season at home against the Tall City Black Gold on June 13.
