Toros LB Wesley Steiner signs to BC Lions practice roster

BREAKING: San Antonio Toros linebacker Wesley Steiner (#54) has been signed to the practice roster of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League, according to the club’s Oct. 6 transactions.

Steiner was the middle linebacker and a team captain for the Toros’ 2026 Continental Football League championship team, which went a perfect 5-0. Now the All-CoFL selection is taking his game north to Canada and the next level of professional football.

Steiner joined the Toros in May, when the club announced his signing:

“A privilege to get to serve another professional organization”

Steiner spoke with SA Snap Count about the move, and he didn’t leave San Antonio without giving the Toros their props.

“This organization believes in getting the best people and building them up to be their best. That’s why the Toros have and will be successful. That’s one of my favorite things I love about the Toros.”

As for what comes next, Steiner sounds ready to go.

“To me, it is a privilege to get to serve another professional organization. To serve with all my skills, abilities, and knowledge that I’ve learned and developed so far in my journey. Especially in a new place to me in Canada!”

From Auburn to the Alamo City to the CFL

Steiner arrived in San Antonio with a big-time résumé. In that May announcement, the Toros noted he played four seasons at Auburn before finishing up at Washington State in 2024. Across 60 college games, he totaled 98 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery, and he led Auburn with a career-high 11 tackles against LSU in 2022.

Then came a run at the NFL. After an elite pro day performance that included a 4.38 40-yard dash and a 39-inch vertical jump at 6’0″, 235 lbs, Steiner spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers. He reached the preseason with the Seattle Seahawks in August 2025 before being waived due to injury, according to the Toros.

The QB of a championship defense

In San Antonio, Steiner became the “QB of the defense.” The Toros said he was a captain all season at middle linebacker and posted 22 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup on his way to All-CoFL honors. He was also a regular at fan and community events.

That defense allowed just 30 points all season, and the Toros capped their 5-0 run with a 46-24 road win over the Black Gold to claim the 2026 CoFL title, which was also head coach Stan Bedwell’s 100th career win.

For the Toros, this is exactly the story the club wants to tell: San Antonio as a place where proven players can compete, win a title and earn their next shot at a higher level of pro football.
