Toros Masked Bandido brings his love of San Antonio sports & smiles to fans
Look around any San Antonio Toros home game, and you will see the familiar faces: the team cheerleading squad, Matadoras, the players bringing their best on the field, and a fanatical mascot decked out in a maroon, black, and white sombrero, a Toros-themed mask, and the sound of him beating his trusty drum all game long.
He is the Toros mascot, the Masked Bandido, getting the home crowd hyped throughout the games.
But who is he? Why does he do it?
We get to know the popular team mascot in this Q&A.
Jeff: How did this start for you? Why did you want to get this thing going?
Bandido: I’ve been doing this with the Spurs, the Gunslingers, so when I found out about the Toros, I was like, you know what, I gotta get on that. I’m a big supporter of San Antonio Sports.
Jeff: What’s been the fans’ reaction at Toros games?
Bandido: From the first game, everyone was ready. Love the energy with my buddies as well, so they love it.
Jeff: What has been your favorite part about being the Toros’ Bandido?
Bandido: Just pretty much just getting the crowd going, and just hearing them chant and cheer. Smiles on their faces. Yeah, that’s what makes this a blessing.
Jeff: Tell us about your most fun interaction with fans so far in just two games.
Bandito: Most fun interaction is pretty much just taking pictures with fans, and they tell me I do a great job out there.
Jeff: So why do you do all this?
Bandido: This is more of a passion for the game. A passion for supporting San Antonio sports. I grew up around sports, you know. I grew up, I grew up with watching basketball, watching baseball, football, hockey. I love sports. I grew up with it my whole life.
Jeff: What is your message to San Antonio about coming out and supporting the Toros?
Bandido: Just come out here and give it a try, and you know we can support our Spurs, we can support the Toros too.
