The clues
Clue 1 (hardest)
Born in Baltimore, he moved to the Houston area as a teenager and played his high school ball in Fort Bend County. His final college game came right here in San Antonio at the Alamo Bowl, where his 192 receiving yards set his school’s bowl-game record [1][3].
Clue 2
A fourth-round NFL draft pick in 2019, he broke his hand in the preseason and missed his whole rookie year. He was later converted to tight end by one NFL team, and in 2022 he passed through the camps or practice rosters of two CFL clubs, the BC Lions and the Edmonton Elks [1].
Clue 3
He was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 XFL Supplemental Draft and finished that season with 51 catches, 599 yards, and eight touchdowns [1].
Clue 4
In 2026 he became the first player to win UFL Offensive Player of the Year twice, and he passed Jonathan Adams to become spring football’s all-time leader in career receiving yards [2].
Clue 5 (easiest)
The former Iowa State star, who set the Cyclones’ single-season record with 1,318 receiving yards in 2018, is the St. Louis Battlehawks’ big-play wide receiver [1][3][4].

Reveal the answer
Hakeem Butler
A wide receiver born in Baltimore and raised from his teens in the Houston area, he set Iowa State’s single-season receiving record with 1,318 yards in 2018 and closed his college career with 192 yards in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio [1][3][4]. The Arizona Cardinals took him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft, but a broken hand wiped out his rookie year, and stops with Carolina, Philadelphia, the CFL’s BC Lions and Edmonton Elks, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati followed [1]. He found a home with the St. Louis Battlehawks, first in the XFL in 2023 and then in the UFL, where he won Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 and again in 2026, when he led the league with 641 receiving yards and became spring football’s career receiving yards leader [1][2]. He signed with the Denver Broncos in June 2026 [1].
