One win from two titles: Toros champion Wesley Steiner and the BC Lions eye the 113th Grey Cup

Cofl To CFL

San Antonio, get your Lions gear ready. Former Toros captain Wesley Steiner is one win from playing for the 113th Grey Cup. If the BC Lions finish the job, a guy who already won the 2026 CoFL championship in San Antonio could add a CFL title in the same year.

From the Toros’ championship to the CFL playoffs

Steiner was the middle linebacker, a team captain and an All-CoFL pick for the Toros, who went a perfect 5-0 and won the 2026 CoFL championship. That defense allowed just 30 points all season, and the Toros clinched the title with a 46-24 road win over the Tall City Black Gold. Steiner finished with 22 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup.

We broke the news on Oct. 6, when the Lions signed Steiner to their practice roster. Things moved fast after that. According to the club’s transactions page, BC promoted him to the active roster on Oct. 8. He sat out the Lions’ Oct. 23 regular-season finale against Winnipeg with a hip injury.

The Lions’ comeback run

BC started 1-5, then won nine of its next 10 to clinch a playoff spot. The Lions finished 10-8, second in the West Division. On Saturday, Oct. 31, they kept rallying. Down 14 points to the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders, BC came back to win the Western Semi-Final 33-26 at BC Place. Nathan Rourke threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns.

One win from the Grey Cup

Next up is the Western Final against the 13-5 Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m. CT, on TSN, RDS and CFL+. Win there, and the Lions head to Calgary for the 113th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Two championships in one year would be quite a ride for the former QB of the Toros defense. San Antonio will be watching. Go get it, Wesley. #VamosToros
