The UFL is not coming back to San Antonio
UFL names Colorado, Rhode Island, Utah, and Oklahoma. San Antonio is not on the list.

SAN ANTONIO โ The United Football League made its next chapter official on Wednesday. It is Colorado. It is Rhode Island. It is Utah. It is Oklahoma.
It is Not San Antonio
In a league announcement posted to X and detailed on theufl.com, the UFL said Rhode Island and Colorado will begin play in 2027, with Utah and Oklahoma joining in 2028 as the circuit grows to 10 teams (United Football League, 2026). The new clubs will play in smaller soccer-style venues: Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, America First Field in Sandy, Utah, and the MAPS 4 Multipurpose Stadium in Oklahoma City.
Rhode Islandโs home opener is set for Friday, April 2, 2027, on FOX. Coloradoโs first home date is Sunday, April 11, 2027, on ABC. Brand unveils follow next month โ Rhode Island on October 18, Colorado on October 25.
Colorado and Rhode Island replace Houston and Birmingham after the 2026 season. San Antonio was already gone before that shuffle. The Brahmas were discontinued on October 3, 2025, along with Michigan and Memphis, after the league said Alamodome-scale buildings no longer fit a plan built around smaller, sellable rooms (Cerna, 2025; Sundeen, 2025).
That is the message, stripped of press-release polish: the UFL looked at markets, venues, and fan bases it wants to build with, and San Antonio did not make the cut. Again.
Mike Repole
UFL co-owner Mike Repole put the standard on the record.
โThere is a real energy around this league right now, and weโre thrilled to bring that energy to four new markets,โ Repole said. โWe said in July that our next step was finding the right markets, venues, and fan bases where we can work with local leaders to build the strongest franchises for today and for the future, and we believe Colorado, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Utah represent those qualitiesโ (United Football League, 2026).
Those qualities, in this ownership era, mean compact stadiums, multiyear venue deals, and cities the league believes it can work with without fighting a 60,000-seat building. Repole has said the new agreements are two- or three-year deals at venues the league intends to keep (Fischer, 2026). San Antonioโs last UFL home was the Alamodome. That mismatch was the stated reason the Brahmas left. Wednesdayโs map confirms the league is still running in the opposite direction.
When the Brahmas folded, league language left a door cracked for 2028 โif the right venue becomes availableโ (Sundeen, 2025). The 2028 expansion class is now Utah and Oklahoma. The door closed. San Antonio football fans should treat Wednesday as the official notice, not a rumor cycle.
What Wednesday Actually Said to San Antonio
The UFL is not coming back to San Antonio under this plan. Hoping the Alamodome suddenly becomes a boutique spring-football building is not a strategy. Waiting for the next merger, the next owner, or the next โweโll look at it in 2028โ line is how this market keeps losing teams.
If you want professional football in San Antonio, stop waiting on a league that has already told you, twice, that this market is not its future. Support the professional franchise that is still here and still building โ the San Antonio Toros.
The UFL has its four new markets. San Antonio has a choice: keep refreshing a league account that already left, or put the energy into the professional team that is here and won the 2026 CoFL Championship.
